The esteemed director and educator, Gerald Freedman, died recently. He was the Dean who invited me to join his faculty at the North Carolina School of the Arts, the school I knew of from the artists who wrote of it in their bios or on their resumes - wonderful artists. I was thrilled to accept the position and grateful that Gerald introduced me to Dale Pollock, the Dean of the Film School, who interviewed my beloved, Nola, and subsequently invited her to teach at the Film School the following year. We have happily made Winston-Salem our home since 2006. Thank you, Gerald, for all you have given me. I strive to follow your example of integrity, generosity and kindness. You made a real difference in so many of our lives.
